Ty Watson House is a community hospice set in a beautiful century-old heritage home. The house was a gift to the people of the Alberni Valley from the estate of Mr. A. C. (Ty) Watson. The hospice bed program began on January 23, 2008 and is available to the community for hospice care and extended respite stays.
We offer personalized care in a loving setting for people of all ages and cultures whose care needs may no longer be met at home.
Medical care will continue to be provided by the resident's personal physician. A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and a Community Health Worker (CHW) are on site 24 hours a day and there is 24 hour access to a Registered Nurse on call.
While nursing care is paid for through the Vancouver Island Health Authority, hospitality services are not. There is a low cost per diem rate for both extended and respite stays.
The house offers a beautifully appointed living room where residents, family members and friends can socialize. We also have a separate comfortable, spacious lounge area with kitchen facilities should families wish to have a private family gathering.
Each resident resides in a comfortable private room which allows family and friends to visit their loved ones at Ty Watson House just as they would if visiting at your home.
*Please contact the house with any questions regarding the current visitor guidelines*
All individuals who wish to receive Hospice care at Ty Watson House must obtain a referral from Community Care Services. If you are in or nearing the palliative care stage with your health, talk to your doctor about registering with Home and Community Care Services and advise them of your desire to receive hospice care.
